Autumn Balloon Flights Over Cornwall

Autumn Balloon Flights Over Cornwall

Posted in Cornwall Balloon Rides on  September 14, 2011

With its beautiful sandy beaches, quaint coastal villages and wild moorland, it is no surprise that Cornwall has been voted the UK’s ‘Favourite Holiday Region’ at the British Travel Awards for the last two years and is in the running for the 2011 Awards.

There is no better way to experience this stunning scenery than by taking a hot air balloon flight with Aerosaurus Balloons.

Members of the Women’s Challenge Club, a Devon-based women’s activity club, recently enjoyed a balloon ride with Aerosaurus Balloons. Here’s one member’s account of the experience…

On the evening of Sunday 21st August six members of the club took a balloon ride from Cornwood, near Plymouth, to a field somewhere in the South Hams (!).

The Devon town of Tiverton held its first ballooning event since 1988 over the weekend of 20th – 22nd May. Richard Cardy in his capacity also, of official event photographer sends this report.

On my arrival at Hartnoll farm, venue of the 1st Tiverton Hot Air Balloon Festival on the first day it looked rather like any other field in Devon. That said it did also look like being in the back of beyond. I drew my assumptions and took faith in my rather dated Satnav that; I was in the right place.

Lisburn will be hosting the first ever three-day international hot air balloon festival in Northern Ireland on August 27th – 29th. Just outside Belfast, the Northern Ireland Hot Air Balloon Festival will host up to 30 balloons, with lots going on over the weekend for all the family. Highlights include morning and evening mass balloon ascents, tethering, public interaction sessions and hot air balloon ‘Night Glows’. There will also be a fun fair, live music throughout the day and a delicious artisan food festival.

The festival will be held at Moira Demesne, a large public park approx. 10 miles outside Lisburn and over 10,000 people are expected to attend over the three days. Tickets are £10 per adult and children under 16 are free of charge (when accompanied by an adult).

A Day In the Life of our Hot Air Ballooning Crew

A Day In the Life of our Hot Air Ballooning Crew

Ever wondered what it is like to be part of a Hot Air Balloon flight crew? Having worked as part of the administration team in the central office for several months, I decided it was time to diversify and undertake the training necessary to become part of a hot air balloon crew. Following a rather damp June, I finally got the chance to begin training on Friday 1st July.

We met the passengers at around 6am at the Hartnoll Hotel which is set in the picturesque Mid-Devon landscape just north of Tiverton. Having checked-in all the passengers, we embarked on a short drive over towards Waterloo Cross which is located just off the M5 Junction 27 near Uffculme. We made our way into a field which we regularly use for launches near Tiverton and began to unload the balloon.
