Somerset

Taunton: Situated on the banks of the River Tone, a busy traditional market town and the capital of Somerset. The town has many striking buildings including Taunton Castle, the Municipal Hall and the church of St Mary Magdalene.

With a flight in the Taunton area you will see the Vale of Taunton, full of orchards, lush hedgerows, narrow lanes, hamlets and willows growing along the ditches and streams. Taunton flights have views stretching across Bridgwater, Wellington and the Blackdown, Quantock & Brendon Hills reaching up to Exmoor.

Chard: The most southerly town in Somerset close to the Devon border. Chard is known to the aviation world due to John Stringfellow who resided in the town and was the inventor of steam powered aeroplanes.

Flights go from Cricket St. Thomas Wildlife Park for the UK's only Safari Balloon Flights. Cricket St. Thomas is also where the popular TV series To the Manor Born was filmed. Flights from here will give views over Chard reservoir settled in attractive woodland, Hornsbury Mill and its water garden, the medieval Forde Abbey and the spectacular Blackdown Hills.

Castle Cary: An attractive market town with picturesque cottages made from the local golden ham stone. In the 19th century the town was known for its horsehair weaving and is today home of the only horsehair manufacturer in the country.
